Pulling Down the Moon

Light Therapy for Fertility

Serving Chicago and North Shore

Let there be light in your efforts to conceive! At Pulling Down the Moon, we offer clinical grade, multi-wave, light therapy for fertility as part of our suite of holistic fertility services in Chicago. Unlike other businesses, we don’t offer only Red Light therapy - our devices simultaneously send Light Red, Deep Red, Near Infrared, and Deep Infrared Lightwaves to the body for maximum mitochondrial stimulation and cellular restoration. Using light to heal and regenerate damaged tissues is not new in healthcare. In fact, recent studies around the world show that using certain light wavelengths hold hope for safely stimulating fertility in both women and men.

What is Light Therapy for Fertility?

Light therapy goes by some other names you may have heard: low-level light therapy (LLLT), photobiomodulation, laser therapy, LED therapy, etc. All of these various names stand for the therapeutic application of low-temperature LED lights to various body parts to stimulate healing in injured or damaged tissues. LLLT has been used for many years to repair wounds and cellular damage to skin, muscles, and other soft tissues. It is an increasingly popular anti-aging treatment because of its ability to kick-start cellular metabolic processes that regenerate and heal soft tissues at the cellular level. Near-infrared or red light is used in LED therapy for fertility because this particular light wavelength can penetrate more deeply into abdominal reproductive tissues (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, etc.) than other types of light. Studies indicate that the near-infrared and red light wavelengths ranging from 720 nm to 840 nm are best for stimulating healing and regeneration in reproductive organs.

How Can Light Therapy Support Fertility?

LED therapy for fertility accomplishes several important goals in a non-invasive, comfortable way. Light is applied to specific areas of the body that need healing and regeneration. The photons that penetrate those tissues stimulate Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production inside damaged or starved cells. ATP is an important metabolic nucleotide that gives cells energy and drives important life processes at a molecular level. The results include softening scar tissue, reducing inflammation, boosting circulation, repairing damaged cells, and regenerating aging cells.

When applied to reproductive organs, the cells start to regenerate and heal more quickly and naturally, improving their function. Studies in Japan¹ and Denmark² showed marked increases in conception and healthy pregnancies after LED red and near infrared light therapy. LLLT therapy for fertility is a great place to start for many people trying to get pregnant as it is less invasive and less expensive than most interventions.  It also works well in conjunction with other holistic fertility-enhancing therapies.

Available as a stand alone service, with an Acupuncture Follow-up, Therapeutic Massage, Advanced Postpartum Massage, or Mercier Therapy appointment.

What Additional Fertility Services Complement Light Therapy for Fertility?

LED therapy works well to support women at any point in their fertility journey, beginning with trying to conceive and well after birth to help support postpartum recovery. Working with thousands of women here at Pulling Down the Moon, we’ve found light therapy enhances and complements the use of other holistic therapies including acupuncture, prenatal and postpartum massage therapy, nutrition, and more.

Acupuncture Therapy

Acupuncture, rooted in ancient Chinese medicine, harnesses the body's natural energy pathways, known as meridians, to restore balance and promote well-being. Acupuncture uses the precise positioning of stainless steel, single-use needles to accentuate the body’s ability to heal and regenerate so that you can optimize fertility and overall good health. It can improve both sperm and egg quality, regulate hormones, reduce inflammation, enhance circulation to reproductive tissues, and lower stress levels; all of which can safely support any phase of trying to conceive with or without Advanced Reproductive Technology.

Massage Therapy

Pulling Down the Moon’s licensed massage therapists are certified and deeply experienced with a wide range of massage therapy modalities that can improve fertility. Our exclusive Fertility Enhancing Massage (FEM) protocol is a series of five massage sessions designed to help women through each stage of their cycle to boost fertility. In addition to these massage therapy options, we also provide prenatal massage therapy throughout pregnancy and postpartum massage therapy for women after giving birth or after a miscarriage. Mercier therapy is also available to help women who need deep-tissue abdominal and pelvic support.

What to Expect During a Light Therapy Session

During a light therapy session, we will attach a Lightstim® belt around your abdomen. When activated, it points the red, deep red, near infrared, and deep infrared light into your tissues and creates a warm, soothing, comfortable sensation. It is a very relaxing process that can be used as a stand-alone therapy, or in conjunction with acupuncture and/or massage therapy. We will work with you to determine the amount of time, combination of therapies, and number of sessions that would work best for you.
